Reichenbach Falls

Reichenbach Falls – Alps – Europe

Posted on February 28, 2019April 22, 2019 by ANURAG BHATNAGAR

Reichenbach falls is one of the most noteworthy and highest water cascades in the Alps mountains. May to July is the best time to see the falls. Closest town is Meiringen, which is approximately at a distance of 2 km from the falls. The yearly Sherlock Holmes remembrance takes place on fourth of May.

Funicular Railway

  1. We can use funicular railway from Willingen to reach the falls. The funicular railroad is operative only for four and a half months during a year from middle of May to the start of October. In seven minutes, railway whisks you up 244 m (800 ft). A tight trail prompts the highest point of the falls, where it is far calmer then at the foot of the fall.
  2. The five falls that make up the Reichenbach falls have a cumulative drop of somewhere in the range of 250 m (820 ft) and the Upper Falls are one of the longest individual falls in the Alps.
  3. The lower falls, where commotion of the water slamming onto the stones is overpowering, are inside the strolling separation of the town. However the train ride to visit the upper falls is an unquestionable experience, as coach crisscrosses the hurrying waters underneath.
  4. From the mountain rescue cabin, a trail leads to the great spots from where one can view / survey the stupendous falls and the Hasli Valley.
  5. The falls are an awesome sight in pre-summer and late-spring, as the waters surge, sprinkle and tumble down the sparkling dark rocks into the chasm and billows of splash rise like smoke.
  6. In any case, the falls are known for their association with Conan Doyle’s The Adventure of the Final Problem, Sherlock Holmes and Prof Moriarty hooked before falling together into the “bubbling pit”. The spot described in the book is on the opposite side of the falls, reachable by a little footbridge, and has a marking of white star.
